An Independent Investigation

This post is being published in response to Olympia City Manager Jay Burney’s press release on August 25th 2020 regarding the city’s response to our demands

Jay Burney’s statement that the city is reaching out to an independent for a review of the case file is absolutely not sufficient and when he says that Yvonne’s 3 sisters who are next of kin are in support of the city’s efforts to resolve the case, he is lying.

What is the issue?

• In independent investigation against the Olympia police Department, City of Olympia employees, Thurston County Coroner and Prosecuter has to be conducted by the Attorney General or US Dept. Of Justice not someone that the city manager hand picks.
• We do not need a review of the case, the Olympia police department did not investigate this case either because they are incompetent or they are covering something up, in either case it’s not okay.
• Of course my mother Cheryl Williams, who is Yvonne’s oldest sister said yes to an independent investigation, however what Jay Burney is doing, is misleading the community into thinking that what he is doing is unbiased. It is not. Therefore she does not support it.
• The Olympia City Council could unanimously vote to reach out to either the AG or USDOJ and ask for help to resolve this case and they should. They were elected to represent US , the citizens of this commuity, and they need to do their job.

I need this community to commit to putting pressure on the Olympia City Council until they make moves in the right direction and stop putting up smoke screens.
